CF Modem Card
Found a 56k CF Modem Card for sale online for a good deal. My eyes are set on this as I rarely see this item cheap. Sure I won't use it often, probably even lesser than my CF WiFi card. But for me it's better to have one. I'll have use for it if I want to surf online at places where WiFi is not offered (provinces for example). All I need is a phone line and a prepaid internet card that costs 100 bucks for at least 10 hours. That was my very first reason the very first time I saw a Pocket PC in my life. I imagined back then surfing the net on my Pocket PC using only a stylus while lying down in my hotel bed.
Funny, never thought I would be owning PDAs and surfing wirelessly everywhere with them.

Connected on a 56k
As I have texted Pyke a minute ago, my fantasy of being connected to the net on my Pocket PC 4 years ago (see previous post) became a reality. I was able to get the 56k CF Modem advertised on bidshot.com for only 2k! Not bad, but I'm still affected by my stupid decision early this year when I didn't buy the one displayed in a store in Park Square 1 for an insane price of 1k! At least I wasn't crazy to buy a brand new one for 5k.

It's my first time to hold a CF modem and I'm surprised that it's not as thick as I thought. It looks like a WiFi card except longer. I can bring this anywhere whether I put it in my gadget pouch or in my shirt pocket. Along with the package is a RJ-11 cable, a CF adapter for laptops (yes it can also be used for laptops!) and its driver. No drivers are required for Pocket PCs.

At first I had a hard time connecting to my prepaid card's ISP. I chose I-Republic because they have the best offer - 30 hours for 100 bucks! Anyway, putting my Technical Support experience to a test, I checked all the settings if they are correct, as well as doing a soft-reset on my iPAQ. After attempting to connect ater 30 minutes I was able to get through. It turned out to be the ISP's fault for some unknown reason. Now I don't have to go to our building just to use our internet or drive to Shell Magallanes to connect to their WiFi. Come to think of it, the last time I've used an internet connection here at home was 7 years ago, when our office was not yet transferred to the building.

Honey of Queer Eye has a Filipina Blood!

Maybe some of you already know this, but I just learned the other day that Honey "The Lady" Labrador of Queer Eye for the Straight Girl has Filipina Blood! I watched a Queer Eye special about the Gal Pals, like who they are, how they were grouped from auditions and their thoughts about their specialties in the show. Honey mentioned that her mother has a mixed breed of nationalities and her father was a Filipino! No wonder her last name was Labrador, never heard any other nationality with that kind of name.

SE K700i

My dad got his new SE K700i from Globe today. Kinda liked it, but not that much. The camera wasn't that good compared to a Nokia. I took a couple of shots which can be seen in my previous post and I just wasn't that satisfied with it. I find the Nokia 6230 of my mom (well, used to be hers until she was robbed last Sunday) better when it comes to camera quality. But Sony Ericson's bluetooth is superior than Nokia's and that's the reason why I would like to get a T630.
I think the T630 is similar with the K700i, only that the latter has bigger memory which can even take videos compared to the puny 2MB size of the former. I wouldn't mind getting the T630 because I have my iPAQ anyway. Pictures can be transferred instantly to my iPAQ and I don't need the buit-in MP3 player of the K700i, as my iPAQ already satisfies my needs with regards to music.

Numbers
Globe doesn't want to retain the old mobile nos. of subscribers who availed of their new promos. That kinda sucks if you ask me. My brother who's been a Globe subscriber since '99 was forced to change his no. of 6 years. What choice does he have, especially if a Nokia 6630 is offered to him for a low monthly fee. Our office mobile no. (which used to be my dad's) which has been existing for more than 4 years and a half will be changed in a few days. Don't we just hate it when we change nos.? Most people don't like it because they have to inform everyone about their new no. I have a different take on that. Being a sentimental person, I loved using that no. It makes you feel that you are one of the "oldies" of Globe. New mobile nos. nowadays start with 0917885**** or something like that, unlike the 0917831**** that we have. When I was still with Globe, I started out with 0917540****(which I hate) and changed it to 0917833**** that is similar to my house no. When I had a new Globe account 2 years ago (and don't ask what happened to it) I requested it to start with 0917831**** again. You may notice I have a thing with numbers. I actually do. You should have seen me years ago whenever I decide which number to choose.
I like the number I got from Smart. I requested the sales agent who got me a Smart Amazing Phone two years ago not to give me a number that starts with 0920 and strongly insisted to give me one that starts with 0918. Why? Again, it makes me feel that I am one of the "oldies" who uses the 0918 and not the 0920. Besides, it makes me cringe when I see the latter. I hope Smart, if they would grant me an extension of my contract to get a new phone, would retain my existing no. unlike what Globe is practicing. I'll find out by next week when we get a new phone for my mom, her contract is about to expire this month and we'll know by then if her no. will be changed or not.
It's been nice using your no., 0917831****. I hope to get your no. if I get a Globe Handyphone again. That is, if I decide to get their bad services again.
